The objective of this project is to give basic rights to the embryo, even if it is not already gestational, giving it the same legal and moral status of people born and living. That is, the embryo will have more rights than women, even when the result of rape. The project directly violates human rights and reproductive rights of women, the Constitution and the criminal law in force. Today, the law does not punish abortion performed in cases of life-threatening and rape. The Statute of the Unborn ignores the relation of cause and effect between the illegality of abortion, high rates of unsafe abortions, and high rates of maternal morbidity and mortality in Brazil, and endangers the mental and physical health and even the women’s life.This message will go directly to the president and members of the House Finance and Taxation.
